Broncos top priority this offseason isn't the roster, but rebuilding coaching staff

The Denver Broncos are entering a long offseason as they try to build a contending team for 2026 after a brutal end to the 2025 season.

While some changes will be made, especially on defense with a few departing veterans, the biggest priority for the Broncos isn't actually on the roster this offseason.

Instead, as Jeff Legwold of ESPN notes, the Broncos' biggest priority this offseason will be rebuilding the coaching staff that's likely to get raided this offseason.

Broncos might need coaching help more than roster moves this offseason

"Having a plan for the raid of the coaching staff. Sean Payton has seen this movie as a head coach - his team has success and gets in the Super Bowl conversation, and others hire away his assistants," Legwold writes.

Top teams losing their best coaches to promotions is very common in the NFL, and while some teams might not be as impacted by this as other teams, the Broncos will likely have some big shoes to fill this offseason.

Vance Joseph is drawing head coaching interest, and while he might not end up elsewhere amid a dwindling field, he's potentially on his way out, and a defensive coordinator needs to be considered for Denver this offseason.

But, arguably, the biggest potential loss would be quarterbacks coach Davis Webb. The young former NFL QB is drawing significant interest from around the league and could be a very fast riser this offseason.

Even if only one of these coaches were to be poached, it would be a major loss for the Broncos, and could turn into a big issue this offseason.

While constructing the roster will be a big priority, fixing a potentially depleted coaching staff could be the much bigger need.
