Broncos select QB once tabbed a future No. 1 overall pick in 7-round mock draft

The 2026 NFL Draft is less than 48 hours away from taking place and the Denver Broncos will soon add to a roster that is expected to compete for a Super Bowl this coming season. 

The Broncos could add help at several positions, but there isn't one position that the team should look at as a must in this draft. Because of the strength of this roster, it's difficult to anticipate what the Broncos will do with their picks and that has led mock drafts to be all over the place. 

In a recent 7-round mock, the crew over at CBS Sports mapped out the entire draft. Tyler Sullivan was in charge of selecting for the Broncos and this is what he came up with.

Round 2, Pick No. 62: Anthony Hill, LB, Texas

Round 4, Pick No. 108: Carson Beck, QB, Miami

Round 4, Pick No. 111: Deontae Lawson, LB, Alabama

Round 5, Pick No. 170: Oscar Delp, TE, Georgia

Round 7, Pick No. 246: Keagan Trost, OT, Missouri

Round 7, Pick No. 256: Patrick Payton, EDGE, LSU

Round 7, Pick No. 257: CJ Donaldson, RB, Ohio State

There are some intriguing picks made there. Anthony Hill would be an incredible pick for the team at No. 62 as he is one of the best inside linebacker prospects in the class and would fill what many feel is the biggest need on the roster. Hill could be a starter right out of the gate as a rookie. 

Oscar Delp would be an interesting choice at tight end. Delp was a four-star recruit coming out of college and chose Georgia over offers from Michigan and Clemson, among others. However, he never caught more than 24 passes in a season in college. 

However, the name that jumps off this list is that of Carson Beck. Beck took the Miami Hurricanes to the College Football National Championship Game last season and had a chance to lead his team to a game-winning touchdown, but threw an interception that sealed Indiana's win. 

Beck is now a mid-round prospect, but he was once touted as the future No. 1 overall pick in the draft. He started his college career at Georgia in 2020 and was supposed to be the next big thing. He was a top prospect as recently as last year's draft, but instead of entering the draft, he transferred to Miami and nearly helped the team win it all.

Despite having a strong quarterback situation behind Bo Nix, there are some who feel the Broncos could select a quarterback in this draft and shop Jarrett Stidham around as trade bait. That said, would Beck fit in Denver as Nix's backup?

Beck is a tall prospect at nearly 6-foot-5 and he has been prepared to be a professional for years. His stint with the Hurricanes likely saved his chances to make an impact at the professional level. Every draft has some surprises, and Beck could be a guy that gets in the right system and is groomed to be a future starting quarterback or, at the very least, a more-than-capable backup.

It's unlikely that the Broncos would use one of their picks on him, but stranger things have happened.
