Broncos may be looking for some on-field intel by elevating ex-Bills player from practice squad

The Denver Broncos will be looking to pull out all of the stops against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday, and may be looking at using one of their former players for some additional help.

On Friday, the team made a pair of curious practice squad elevations. One of those was former Bills wide receiver Elijah Moore. Moore signed a one-year contract with the Bills in April as a free agent. He caught nine passes for them this season but was released when the team signed Brandin Cooks, a move I suggested that the Broncos should make after he was cut by the New Orleans Saints

Instead, Cooks went to Buffalo and one week later, the Broncos added Moore to their practice squad. He has not been elevated for a game since... until now.

If he is active on Saturday, it will likely be because the Broncos are using him to help defend the Bills when they are on offense. Almost as a coach of sorts, he could be positioned right next to Vance Joseph, telling him what to look for. That is the only explanation that would make any sense, as the Broncos are not hurting at wide receiver going into this game.

However, if Moore is active, who would be inactive? The Broncos likely wouldn't need six wide receivers in this game, so either Lil'Jordan Humphrey or Pat Bryant could be sat down, though that would be a risky move too.

Bills, decimated with WR injuries, could use Elijah Moore now but they waived him Nov. 26. He's now on Denver's practice squad and providing plenty of info. on Bills to #Broncos. “I did all I can in meetings. They asked me questions. Whatever they asked, I gave it to them.”

Moore has been practicing with the Broncos since early December, so he is familiar with the playbook. Still, it would be surprising to see him on the field at all in this game. Instead, it seems like a move Sean Payton is making to try and give the Broncos any kind of edge they can have over this particular opponent.

However, if Moore needs to be called upon for whatever reason, he is capable. He has over 200 career receptions for 2,274 yards with nine touchdowns.
