Broncos looking to shore up two positions, host 7 players for tryouts

The Denver Broncos may already see some chinks in the armor early on in training camp and they could be looking to patch some of those holes, though the holes, at least at this point, are small.

Heading into the 2025 season, the two spots where there seems to be the most concern from the fanbase are at wide receiver and inside linebacker. Whether or not the team had enough help at those two spots was being asked long before camp started, but some early injuries may have led the team to call in some potential reinforcements.

At inside linebacker, the Broncos have already seen Drew Sanders suffer a foot injury and Alex Singleton break his thumb within the first three practices. That led to the Broncos taking a look at these four free agents on Tuesday:

Krys Barnes
Garrett Wallow
Anthony Hines
Jailin Walker

Barnes is the most experienced player on the list. Undrafted in 2020, he has 280 career tackles and five sacks. Wallow was a fifth-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2021 and has 42 career tackles. Hines played at Texas A&M in college before joining the New York Jets in the NFL. He also played well in the UFL for the DC Defenders. Walker went undrafted this past spring out of Indiana. He was signed by the Raiders, who released him last week.

If the Broncos want a good stop-gap to fill in while Sanders misses time, Barnes is a decent option. He's played in 68 career games for the Packers and Cardinals.

Linebacker wasn't the only spot the Broncos were weighing their options. Courtland Sutton — who recently signed a four-year contract extension — is the team's clear-cut No. 1 option. But there is a valid concern as to whether or not there is enough depth at the position behind him.

While the team could consider a veteran option like Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper, on Tuesday, they worked out a trio of younger options. Dax Milne, Grant DuBose and Braylon Sanders were all given a look.

Milne was a seventh-round pick of Washington in 2021 and spent time with the Raiders and Panthers last year. He has 15 career receptions.

DuBose was taken in the seventh round of the 2023 draft by the Packers and was claimed on waivers by the Dolphins after the Packers let him go last summer. He has caught just two passes in the NFL.

Sanders has played for the Dolphins and Patriots in the NFL but found most of his success this past spring as a member of the UFL champion DC Defenders, where he had 332 yards receiving and three touchdown catches.

None of these players will tip the scales, but the Broncos are looking around for players who may be able to provide some kind of boost before the summer starts. We'll have to wait and see if any of them land contracts.
