The Denver Broncos had one of the best defensive players in recent memory when Von Miller was part of the roster. In October 2021, just ahead of the trade deadline that year, he was traded to the Los Angeles Rams.
At that time, that was the correct decision to make. In exchange, George Paton obtained second and third-round picks in the upcoming draft for the aging Miller. But Miller is still in the league. He is still getting to the quarterback, and he still wants to come back to Denver.
This comes up all too often at this point. In fact, any time there's a microphone in front of Von or an interview in progress, it seems to come up. That was the case recently when he was speaking to Rich Eisen. When asked about how much longer he wants to play, Miller said this:
"I would love to be a Washington Commander. Now, if something were to happen and I'm not a Washington Commander, I would love to go to the Denver Broncos. I got traded. I didn't get a chance to have that closure. I didn't get to walk into the stadium and be like, okay, this is my last game, or I'm gonna do with the fans... I didn't get that closure".
— Rich Eisen Show (@RichEisenShow) March 3, 2026There are Broncos fans who are likely beginning to get annoyed by this. But, if we look at it logistically, what is it going to hurt?
Broncos should consider signing Von Miller in free agency
Sure, Miller will soon be 37 years old, but we can't say he's not productive. He had another nine sacks last season in a situational pass-rushing role in Washington. What would stop him from doing that in Denver?
The Broncos have a perfect situation for a player like that. They have Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper to take the majority of the snaps. They have a rising star in Jonah Elliss as well as a solid young option in Que Robinson. These players couldn't benefit from having a guy like Miller around? Nonsense.
Miller could come in for those situational roles to get after the quarterback and add yet another dimension to a defense that is already well-equipped to get after the quarterback. Adding a player who can still produce at a good level to what is already the strength of the team is a move the Broncos should definitely consider.
This is not about taking pity on Miller. It's not about giving in to his desires or doing right by him for his several years of great service. This is about a move that just makes sense for both sides.

However, it does provide a great story for the Super Bowl 50 MVP to finish his career where it started. The deal would have to be cost-friendly for the Broncos; handing out a huge one-year deal would make little sense, but as long as Miller was agreeable to that, there is no harm in making this move.
