The Las Vegas Raiders look set to be without star tight end Brock Bowers for the Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts due to a knee injury.
Bowers has been dealing with a nagging knee issue since the Week 1 game against the New England Patriots, when he first sustained the injury.
Now, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Bowers is not expected to play on Sunday, which marks the first time the Georgia product hasn't appeared in a contest during his young career.
Brock Bowers injury update
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bowers is dealing with a PCL injury and bone bruise on his knee, and as we suspected, it has hampered his performance on the field.
While the injury doesn't appear to be serious, Bowers had been unwilling to rest his knee in order to give it time to heal to 100%.
"Raiders TE Brock Bowers has been playing through a PCL injury and bone bruise on his knee that has impacted his performance, per sources," Schefter reported. "Doctors have said the only way to recover from the knee injuries he suffered on opening day vs. the Patriots is to rest, which Bowers has been unwilling to do."
Bowers started off the season with a 100-yard performance and looked set to build on his historic rookie campaign. However, Bowers has been quiet the last three weeks and that was the first sign he was bothered by the injury.
It appeared Bowers was making progress last week after he turned in three full practices, but he took a step back with a limited session on Wednesday before Thursday and Friday revealed he didn't practice at all.
Pete Carroll said he expected Bowers to play, but clearly the Raiders thought the better of that and are taking the safer approach with their star tight end, which is definitely the right move.
