Mario Cristobal is locked in for the rest of December. The Miami Hurricanes head coach has made the call to cancel Christmas and focus on preparation for the playoffs and recruitment.

"I mean, just cancel Christmas. I mean, you got stuff to do. I don’t think any coach would feel sorry for themselves,” said Cristobal during a press conference.

College football fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to give their two cents about his words.

A fan said, "Bro must hate his wife and kids. Loser." Another added, "So unbelievably corny on so many levels." One wrote, "Cancel Christmas, I have a game to mismanage."

Some fans seemed to understand his point of view.

One said, "This man mean business! Dude is relentless. Don’t know any CFB coach rn that’ bleeds of Miami getting back to dominance Rn then anyone out here." Another wrote, "Tell them coach LACE YA BOOTS UP." One chipped in, saying, "#GoCanes"

Mario Cristobal is committed to bringing excellence to the Miami Hurricanes program, and the end of the year is one of the most important times in the season. The Hurricanes are featuring in the College Football Playoffs, while the transfer portal opens on January 2, 2026.

Collegiate football coaches are expected to lock in at this time, and Mario Cristobal is no exception. So, while it might sound deflating, he doesn't have a choice but to work around the clock during the festivities.

Mario Cristobal's Miami Hurricanes up against Texas A&M in CFP first-round

The Miami Hurricanes will start their quest for a national championship with a game against the red-hot Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies are competing in the playoffs for the first time in school history.

The Miami Hurricanes have been thoroughly impressive this season. They recorded regular-season wins over ranked opponents: USF, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Pittsburgh. Their sole losses occurred against Louisville and SMU.

Mario Cristobal has the team playing defensively solid football while being able to outscore their opponents on the offensive end. Carson Beck has been serviceable at quarterback since his transfer from the Georgia Bulldogs.

Next up for the Hurricanes is a showdown against the Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies were one win away from recording a perfect regular season. However, archrivals, the Texas Longhorns, defeated them in their last game before the playoffs.

Mike Elko's team still reached the playoffs with relative ease. Their first opponent will be a gritty Miami team looking to make some noise at the business end of the campaign.
