Although director Jon M. Chu isn’t ready to delve into the casting of Britney Spears just yet, there’s still been plenty of buzz around who will play the pop supernova in her upcoming biopic.

Mikey Madison is one of the names being floated to star as Spears, and she was asked Tuesday about the rumors — which she called “incredibly flattering” — while speaking to Metro Entertainment at The Social Reckoning‘s U.K. premiere.
The Oscar-winning actress loves her some Britney, but believes a more unknown actress would be better suited to fully morph into the “Toxic” singer.
“Britney is my everything, but I think for her you need someone completely unknown, someone completely fresh that you can just pluck and mold into her,” Madison said.
Madison didn’t appear to know that a Spears biopic is in the works, and the interviewer added her prediction that “[Britney] would be pretty happy with you” in the role.
“That’s incredibly flattering,” the Anora actress replied. “I don’t have much musical talent.”
Director Jon M. Chu has been tight-lipped about anything surrounding the Universal Films biopic, which is an adaptation of Spears’ The Woman in Me memoir from 2023.
“I am not even thinking about casting right now,” Chu told Variety at the opening of the George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles earlier this month. “We’re just trying to get the story right.”
Liz Meriweather (The New Girl) is currently writing the script while Marc Platt is onboard to produce the biopic. Chu has been open about receiving “hundreds” of unsolicited email pitches when it comes to who will ultimately play the pop star.
“[Meriweather’s] doing so many beautiful things and I may or may not have gotten glimpses of what she’s been doing and it’s incredible,” Chu said. “It’s incredible, profound, beautiful. And that’s all I can say about it. You already got me to say too much.”
