The final major of the year is under way, as golfers have gathered in Northern Ireland to compete for the British Open title.
Royal Portrush is hosting the event for the third time in the 153-year history of the tournament, and first time since in 2019. That year, Shane Lowry dominated the British Open with a six-shot victory over the field to take home his first major title.
However, the defending champion for the British Open is Xander Schauffele, who capped off his 2024 with a second major win at Royal Troon. Schauffele entered this year's tournament while having a quiet year thus far, as he hasn't won a tournament since taking home the Claret Jug last year.

Following Friday's second round, world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler sat at the top of the British Open leaderboard. He posted a dominant 64 on the par-71 course in Round 2, flying up among the leaders at 10-under for the tournament. However, while Scheffler pursues his fourth major win, plenty of others find themselves in striking distance, including Matt Fitzpatrick (-9), Brian Harman (-8) and Haotong Li (-8).
The action will continue Saturday in Round 3, where Scheffler will seek to distance himself and others will look to catch up to the star.
Here's a look at the leaderboard so far for the 2025 British Open.
