British Open just first of many ‘bonus golf’ changes for New Jersey’s Chris Gotterup

PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — It was shortly after 2 in the afternoon Tuesday at Royal Portrush when Chris Gotterup emerged from a walkway and appeared at the first tee. 

He joined playing partners Sam Burns and Jhonattan Vegas for his first British Open practice round, and both players congratulated him for his momentous victory at the Scottish Open on Sunday. 

Vegas asked him how much sleep he’d gotten since Sunday night. 

“Not a lot,’’ Gotterup said, smiling.
