Brian Schottenheimer details what he likes from Cowboys' offense through Week 5

The Dallas Cowboys' offense through five weeks has been exactly what I thought it would be, and considering the injuries to CeeDee Lamb and the offensive line, one could say that is surprising.

But still, Brian Schottenheimer leads one of the best offenses in football with Dak Prescott playing at an MVP level (1,356 yards, 10 touchdowns, three interceptions, 71.3 completion percentage, 101.1 passer rating), Javonte Williams being third in the league in rush yards (447, five touchdowns), Dallas being in the top 10 for rush yards per game, along with averaging 30.2 points per game (ranks fourth).

Plus, an offensive line that has questions all over it entering the season has given up just seven games in five games, and only two in the last two weeks.

Is that good? It seems good.

But that is from outside the building. What does Schotty think about his unit through the first five weeks?

“I like the balance, I like the ability to, when you're struggling to run the ball a little bit like we were [vs. Jets], it doesn't take much, Javonte's run at the end of the first half was just incredible," Schottenheimer said. "I like how the ball's being spread around, the balls going to different people. I'm pleased with the way we're playing up front, and then of course Dak's playing really well right now.”

Cowboys' coaching staff proving doubters wrong

Speaking for the offense, many were skeptical of the Cowboys in 2025 simply because Schottenheimer was a first-time head coach, while Klayton Adams and Conor Riley had experience on the field in both the NFL and college, respectively.

But what the Cowboys have been able to do in the first five weeks, with a new coaching staff and a handful of new players, has many singing the praises of the staff under Schotty.

Granted, it is only a small sample size, but the Cowboys appear, at least offensively, to have a good thing going. Defensively? That is another thing entirely with Matt Eberflus and his unit coming under heavy fire for their performances this season.

But after the New York Jets game, there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Overall, Schottenheimer has had a superb start to life as a head coach, and for once, the Cowboys have positive vibes flowing through The Star.
