Given the state of the defense, the Dallas Cowboys' offense has to be nearly perfect if they are to win games, and through the opening five weeks, Dak Prescott and Co. have been good, but against the Carolina Panthers in a 30-27 loss, a brutal three-and-out cost them in the fourth quarter.
Such was the defense's performance that they didn't get a three-and-out until the fourth quarter, and when they did, Dallas followed it up with a three-and-out themselves, and with six minutes left on the clock, that was the last time the Cowboys' offense touched the ball.
When asked post-game about the offense needing to be perfect to win the game, head coach Brian Schottenheimer stated he doesn't think that is the case.
"I don't look at it that way, you're just playing the game," Schottenheimer said. "Our defense made some big stops in the fourth quarter, we weren't able to punch the ball in. When they stop them, we got to capitalize. We got to be able to score touchdowns in the redzone, and we didn't do that."

Cowboys need to figure out defense
The Cowboys' defense allowed over 400 yards of total offense to the Panthers and also gave up 6.4 yards per play, with Rico Dowdle rushing for 183 yards, as the defense struggled to stop Carolina.
Many knew this defense wasn't that good, but through six weeks, it is tough sledding, and when the offense isn't firing on all cylinders and putting up points, the team struggles because the defense can't stop anyone.
They have given up 30+ points in four of their last five games, and if the Cowboys have any intention of making something of this season, something has to be done about a defense that gives up yards and points for fun.
