Brian Cashman ignored Yankees' 'weakness' at third base

The New York Yankees walked away from the trade deadline without a right-handed-hitting catcher and bullpen help. 

Both positions were two of New York's most glaring roster needs for the second half of the regular season and into the postseason. 

The Yankees were rumored to have interest in Hunter Goodman and Adley Rutschman, but the Colorado Rockies' asking price for Goodman was very high, and the Boston Red Sox sent a haul to the Baltimore Orioles for Rutschman. 

FanSided's Rucker Haringey argues that the Yankees needed to do more than what they failed to accomplish at the deadline. 

Haringey wrote Friday that Cashman should have considered making a trade for an upgrade at third base.

"Giving [Ryan] McMahon a chance to play his way into form this year was a reasonable gamble by Cashman, but he should have made a move at the deadline to correct his mistake," Haringey wrote. "McMahon and Amed Rosario are not a good enough platoon for a team that fancies themselves as World Series contenders." 

McMahon, a former All-Star, has not been the same elite defender at the hot corner as he's been in the recent past. At the plate, he strikes out a ton, which plays a factor in his below-average 80 OPS+.

Rosario is a poor defensive third baseman and has not hit lefties well this season, something that was considered a strong part of his game. 

The Yankees would've been better off trying to find an upgrade over McMahon and Rosario. 

New York added first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. and left fielder Heliot Ramos to the lineup, but the positions they play will complicate the lineup for manager Aaron Boone if and when Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger return from injury.
