The Milwaukee Brewers' World Series championship is a rare instance of a team with a smaller payroll winning it all, showing just how special this group was.

Manager Pat Murphy led a talented group that was extremely close-knit, as the defining characteristic of the team may end up being its chemistry. When Jake Bauers caught the last out of the World Series, it was the culmination of years of build-up to get to that moment.

Bauers and Murphy shared a moment after the game, in which Murphy took a shot at the New York Yankees. While the Brewers never played the Yankees in this Milwaukee playoff run, New York nonetheless was on Murphy's mind during the postgame celebration.

Here's what Murphy said about the Yankees after the game.

Pat Murphy takes shot at Yankees

Jake Bauers had the honor of catching the final out of the World Series, but instead of keeping the ball, he gave it to his manager. Pat Murphy, upon receiving the ball, took a shot at the Yankees in the process.

"You're gonna be a rich f***er," Murphy told Bauers. "Just remember when you're on that horse s*** Yankee team and you're all playing for yourselves...just remember this is way we used to do it."

Murphy referencing the Yankees could have been for one of a few reasons. First, Bauers is set to cash in this offseason as a free agent, and Milwaukee is unlikely to bring him back. Therefore, Murphy could have used the Yankees as more of a placeholder for whichever team signs Bauers.

The Brewers' success came as a direct counter to many of the big-market teams, since Milwaukee's payroll is in the bottom half of the league. Murphy and the rest of the organization leaned into the togetherness and selflessness of the players to create a winning environment.

Additionally, Bauers came to Milwaukee from New York, as he played for the Yankees in 2023 to cap off parts of two seasons in the organization, so Murphy could have been digging the Yankees for letting him go. The Yankees' 2023 season was New York's worst in three decades, so Bauers may have come to the Brewers without the best memories from that season.
