The Milwaukee Brewers traded away a few key starters this past offseason by sending Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets and Caleb Durbin to the Boston Red Sox.
But, after their 14-2 blowout of the Chicago White Sox, the Brewers haven't lost a beat. While the pitching, with 20 total strikeouts, was impressive, the lineup can't be ignored.
As Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report notes, the Brewers' lineup showed up on Opening Day and might be a nightmare for opposing pitchers all year for one main reason: their incredible discipline.
Brewers might be nightmare matchup for pitchers thanks to discipline
"Seriously, good luck pitching to them. Yes, it's the White Sox," Rymer writes. "But Milwaukee's offense drew 10 walks and struck out only three times on the day. The discipline that resulted in the NL's best BB/K ratio in 2025 is clearly still there."
While there are a lot of facets that go into a good offense in Major League Baseball, being able to limit strikeouts and generate walks is a great starting point.
For the Brewers, the team that was the best at walking and limiting strikeouts last season, looks to be headed towards another such season in 2026.

The White Sox might be one of the worst pitching staffs in all of baseball, but the performance from the Brewers' hitters is impressive nonetheless.
But it's not just about the walks for the Brewers; it's that they got 12 hits on the day, two of which were home runs, to go with their 10 walks and only three strikeouts.
It was a complete performance from the Brewers' lineup, and it came without Jackson Chourio, who is one of their better hitters.
This was a fantastic start to 2026 for the Milwaukee lineup, and if they can keep this discipline at the plate up all year, they will be a major nightmare for opposing pitching all season long.
