Brewers' Kyle Harrison made one simple change that's sparked breakout season

The Milwaukee Brewers have been the best team in the National League Central, thanks in part to the dominance of two of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball.

While a lot of the attention has been on Jacob Misiorowski, Kyle Harrison should not be ignored. He's breaking out this season and is certainly a Cy Young caliber pitcher in 2026 so far.

So, what caused this breakout? Fansided.com's Robert Murray revealed that the Brewers had Harrison make one change that's helped spark this breakout. And this one change is a ridiculously simple one: Harrison moved to a different side of the mound.

Kyle Harrison makes a simple change to spark a Cy Young-caliber season

"This offseason, the Brewers changed some foundational things with Harrison, including altering the way he practiced," Murray writes. "Late in spring training, he moved to the other side of the rubber on the mound, and utilized it in the scrimmage in late March against the Cincinnati Reds and carried it into the regular season."

Harrison is breaking out this season, and his decision to simply move from one side of the mound to the other has been a huge boost to his production.

This season, Harrison is pitching from the left-side of the rubber, closer to first base. While this might not be the only reason why he's having such success, it's still a notable change that has helped Harrison have a breakout 2026 season so far.

Through 10 starts for the Brewers, after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox in the Caleb Durbin trade, Harrison has a 1.57 ERA, a 6-1 record, 2.3 bWAR, 61 strikeouts, and 14 walks in 51.2 innings pitched with a 256 ERA+.

Harrison has been incredible this season, and if it weren't for Misiorowski, Cristopher Sanchez, and Shohei Ohtani, he'd be much more talked about as a Cy Young candidate.

The Brewers' lefty had a 4.39 ERA coming into this season, but has broken out and more than reached his potential.

While it remains to be seen if this will last all year, for now, Harrison's breakout, spurred on by switching sides of the mound, has been incredible to watch.
