Brewers' Jett Williams, Caleb Durbin can make baseball history not done since 1933

The Milwaukee Brewers made a dramatic change to the dynamic of their roster when they traded starting pitcher Freddy Peralta and right-hander Tobias Myers to the New York Mets

In return, they received two of the Mets' top prospects, righty Brandon Sproat and infielder Jett Williams. Sproat and Williams will be key to Milwaukee's hopes of fielding competitive rosters under a semi-tight budget.

The Brewers made a similar trade last offseason, sending closer Devin Williams to the New York Yankees for Caleb Durbin -- a 25-year-old who became their starting third baseman in his first year with the NL Central club.

As an infield duo, Durbin and Williams can make Major League history not accomplished in nearly a century.

Durbin and Williams are not particularly large infielders. They are both listed as 5-foot-7 on Baseball Reference.

MLB.com's Sarah Langs provided this quality piece of research via X on Friday:

"If at some point the Brewers start Caleb Durbin at 3B + Jett Williams at SS in an MLB game, they would be the 1st team to start a 3B & SS both 5 ft 7 in or shorter in a game since: 7/8/1933 Reds - SS Sparky Adams, 5 ft 5 in, and 3B Andy High, 5 ft 6 in."

A lot has changed in baseball in the past 93 years. Durbin and Williams should be key contributors to the Brewers this season and in the future, meaning the odds of this happening are likely.
