Before his trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Milwaukee Brewers were rumored to be one of the clubs interested in acquiring Tarik Skubal.
A one-two punch of Skubal and Jacob Misiorowski would've been the best in baseball, and that would have been very difficult to beat in the postseason.
Yes, even the Dodgers' star-studded lineup might have experienced struggles against those two guys.
How did the Brewers pivot after failing to land Skubal? Well, The Athletic's Stephen J. Nesbitt tabbed the NL Central club as a loser of the trade deadline following its subsequent moves.
"When you enter a trade deadline rumored to be in on Tarik Skubal, the top name on the trade market, and come away with Dustin May and JoJo Romero, it’s bound to be disappointing," Nesbitt wrote.
Brewers make trades to bolster pitching staff
The Brewers also acquired reliever Antonio Senzatela from the Colorado Rockies and catcher Bo Naylor from the Cleveland Guardians.
Did Milwaukee upgrade its pitching staff with May, Romero, and Senzatela? Potentially, but those moves still feel underwhelming.

"The additions of May, Romero and Antonio Senzatela fortify an already formidable pitching staff," Nesbitt wrote. "Bo Naylor provides catching depth. But when the Dodgers land Skubal and the Cubs reshape their entire rotation, all of these smaller moves leave you wanting a bit more."
The Brewers are still one of the best clubs in the Majors, and have a real opportunity to win a World Series.
But if they fall short, the front office may look at their failure to land Skubal as one reason why.
