Brewers encouraged to trade for Rays' all-star to fill positional void

The Milwaukee Brewers are officially among the 27 other MLB teams that are in "offseason mode". After a dissapointing trip to the NLCS resulted in a sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Brewers are in an interesting spot, and this offseason will tell a lot about how the front office feels about its current roster.

As the hot stove season approaches in MLB, the rumors are swirling around which potential star players could be on the move. One name that has garnered many trade rumors is Tampa Bay Rays' first baseman Yandy Diaz.

Should Milwaukee target Rays' Yandy Diaz?

It was apparent in the NLCS that Milwaukee just wasn't generating enough offense, and that had been the case for much of the season at first base.

In a recent offseason roadmap article by Bleacher Report, Yandy Diaz is named as a potential trade target for the Brewers this offseason:

"Díaz is due $12M in 2026 with a club option for 2027 that will be either $10M or $13M, depending on how much he plays this coming season. It's a considerable enough cost that Tampa Bay may be happy to get out of paying it, but not such a considerable cost that the Brewers wouldn't take it, given his batting prowess and their uncertainty at first base."

Diaz hit .300 this season and added 25 home runs, 83 RBIs in 150 games. He was named an all-star back in 2023, but certainly had a good enough season to earn a second selection this season. He's been an above-average hitter for several seasons now, and had an OPS+ of 136 this season.

Yandy Diaz is a name the Brewers should absolutely consider trading for to improve their dire need for offensive production at first base.
