Although it's early in the season, the Seattle Mariners seem to have found a gem with utility man Brendan Donovan.
Acquired in the offseason from the St. Louis Cardinals, Donovan is one of the most versatile players in the major leagues.
Apart from pitcher and catcher, the only position that Donovan has not appeared in throughout his career is center field.
Originally thought to be a second baseman, the Mariners were quick to move the former Cardinal to third base to begin the 2026 season, despite making zero appearances at the position in 2025.
At the hot corner, Donovan has already impressed, making a noteworthy sliding catch into the wall in foul territory.
But it hasn't just been Donovan's glove that's been getting the job done.
Through the first four games of the season, he's racked up three multi-hit games out of the leadoff spot, including two home runs.
One of those home runs came against the Cleveland Guardians Sunday night, when Donovan took Slade Cecconi deep with a three-run home run.
Following the game, Donovan spoke on the beginning of his Mariners tenure, saying, "I'm excited to be here. Coming into a new organization, you want to make a good impression, but you want to be yourself at the same time."
After splitting their opening four-game set against the Guardians 2-2, the Mariners will host the New York Yankees for a three-game series beginning Monday.
Following that series, Seattle will hit the road for the first time in 2026.
