The Brendan Sorsby gambling drama is about to leave the world of college football and enter the world of the NFL and teams may have to make a decision on whether to take a gamble of their own on him.
Among those teams are the Jets, who are perpetually searching for a franchise quarterback. If the NFL grants his application to be entered in a supplemental draft next month, it figures to be a divisive issue among Jets fans whether to take Sorsby, who announced Monday he was dropping his challenge to play this season at Texas Tech.
The Jets could use another quarterback. They have Geno Smith as their starter and Bailey Zappe, Brady Cook and rookie fourth-round pick Cade Klubnik as the potential backups. Sorsby is viewed by some as a first-round talent and the idea of using a lower pick on him in the supplemental draft could be seen as low risk and high reward.
Others view Sorsby as too risky after it was discovered he had wagered approximately $90,000 over four years, including 40 bets involving Indiana football when he was a freshman there.
