Skier Breezy Johnson Reveals Her Olympic Gold Medal Broke Moments After Ceremony
A gold medal isn’t the only bling Breezy Johnson is leaving Italy with.
Days after the skier took home Team USA’s first gold medal of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, Breezy was treated to an extra special moment at the bottom of the super-G track: Her boyfriend Connor Watkins proposed.
“You have worked so hard and achieved so much,” Connor said from one knee as seen in a video posted by Today, “and yet you still find the time to love me, to make me feel special, and most importantly, you help me love myself.”
And as he and Breezy both grew emotional, Connor continued “There’s only one way I want to spend the rest of my life, and that is by your side. I love you Breezy, will you marry me?”
Through tears, the 30-year-old nodded her assent and the pair kissed amid the cheers of their Team USA friends and loved ones.
But Connor wasn’t completely on his own for the proposal, as he popped the question with an assist from Taylor Swift.
The special moment was a bright spot after an otherwise disappointing super-G run for Breezy after a collision with one of the course’s barricades caused her to crash.
“When you make mistakes like that in ski racing,” she told Today anchors Craig Melvin, Carson Daly and guest Hoda Kotb after the proposal, “you feel kind of stupid and you kind of just want to go talk to your friends and family, and seeing him was really exciting—and then everything else is just crazy.”
As for the “incredibly surreal experience” watching Breezy win gold and compete at her second Olympic Games, Connor admitted his nerves from the sidelines equated to more than just pre-proposal jitters.

“Every time she goes down the hill, I’m nervous,” he said. “I wanted her to do well, but I just want her to be safe, too. So, when she got up after the crash and was good—that was a sigh of relief, and then my heart started racing again because I knew I was about to go and get down on my own knee and propose.”
Overall, “it’s been lovely though,” he confirmed. “It’s been incredible.”
And while Breezy admitted to NBC News she “may have” hinted to Connor she’d long imagined being proposed to at the Olympics, the reality was even better than her wildest dreams.
“It's definitely a lot more crazy with everything just happening all at once,” she said. “And the reality of it is so different than the way you imagined, and so much better."
