Braves' Walt Weiss gives brutal Ronald Acuna Jr. injury timeline update amid ongoing struggles

The Atlanta Braves are struggling mightily right now, and there seems to be little momentum toward turning things around. Injuries are beginning to pile up for Atlanta, and this time, there are no easy answers.

Ronald Acuña Jr. has already dealt with multiple injuries this season. The former MVP initially suffered a hamstring injury in Colorado.

“Sunday morning brought bad news to the Braves, but it could have been worse. The team placed Ronald Acuña Jr. on the 10-day injured list after he strained his left hamstring in Saturday’s 9-1 win over the Rockies at Coors Field. Acuña got an MRI late Saturday night, and the Braves made the decision early Sunday,” MLB.com’s Owen Perkins wrote.

Then, just last week, Acuña suffered another setback. This time, he re-injured his hamstring, leading to another stint on the injured list.

“Less than 24 hours after Ronald Acuña Jr. expressed optimism that his latest injury scare wasn't serious, the Braves were forced to make a move they had hoped to avoid. Atlanta placed Acuña on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain prior to the Braves' 2-1 loss on Wednesday,” MLB.com’s Zach Sweet wrote.

It is devastating that Acuña has suffered these injuries, especially after initially believing the latest issue was not serious. Braves manager Walt Weiss recently provided an update on Acuña, and the outlook is not encouraging.

“Weiss said Acuña is a “long way” from returning. Because the hamstring strain is in the same spot, the Braves will be more cautious than they were when Acuña missed nearly three weeks with the previous strain,” Braves reporter Mark Bowman posted.

With Atlanta taking a cautious approach, it appears Acuña is likely still several weeks away from returning. It feels especially unfortunate given everything he has dealt with over the past couple of seasons.

He was just beginning to find his rhythm in 2026 before the second injury interrupted his momentum. While it is the right decision for Atlanta to be cautious, given the team’s struggles, the timing makes this a particularly difficult update.
