Braves trade proposal lands Spencer Strider replacement in form of Cy Young

It's been as ugly as it could be for the Atlanta Braves during the early parts of the 2025 campaign, and their pitching staff has been a reason for that.

The Braves currently hold the ninth-worst ERA as a team in Major League Baseball, something that was expected to be one of their strong suits entering the season.

With right-hander Spencer Strider going down with a hamstring injury recently, the Braves have to be careful with their ace. The young star has dealt with multiple injuries over the past few seasons, and the last thing they want is to deal with another one.

Looking for potential trade candidates, Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins could be one to help fix the Braves' most significant need, especially if Strider is out for longer than some anticipate.

David Schoenfield of ESPN believes he's one of the 30 most likely players to be traded in Major League Baseball, giving a good indication that he'll be available, which many around the league, even outside of Schoenfield, expect.

"With Guerrero off the board and the Marlins in the middle of a deep rebuild, Alcantara jumps to the top of the list as the biggest name likely to be traded. What makes him so intriguing is that the 2022 Cy Young winner is signed through 2026 with a reasonable $21 million club option for 2027, so he can help a team through three pennant races," he wrote.

Alcantara hasn't thrown the baseball at a high level to start the season, but it's tough to ignore what he's done throughout his career.

A Cy Young Award winner, his 6.56 ERA certainly isn't great, but he has seasons with below 3.00 ERAs, and should eventually return to form after coming back from an injury.
