Braves trade deadline priority changed after Spencer Strider injury news

The Atlanta Braves, sitting atop the NL East, are an obvious trade deadline buyer this season. The only question has been what they plan to target this summer.

While offense has been a big need, especially if they could find a way to bring Byron Buxton home in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. But now, things have changed for the Braves' trade deadline priority.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Braves reportedly have changed their trade deadline priority thanks to the Spencer Strider injury news. Starting pitching is now taking precedence over offensive firepower this summer for Atlanta.

Braves have new trade deadline priority after Spencer Strider's injury

"The recent Spencer Strider injury news has pushed the Braves' need for starting pitching to the front of the line, with another hitter being a secondary need," Bowden writes.

The Braves need more starting pitching help, as Strider's injury has left a significant hole in the rotation this season.

While Chris Sale has been great again this year, and Bryce Elder has been a fun surprise, the Braves have some questionable depth and could really use another frontline starter.

Come the postseason, it's going to be hard to trust the Braves current rotation in a series. Sale is great, but Strider will be coming off a lengthy injury absence, and it's hard to fully trust Elder, Martin Perez, and Grant Holmes.

Fortunately for the Braves, some very interesting pitchers could be on the move this summer. Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers would be a dream trade pickup, but Joe Ryan of the Twins and Freddy Peralta of the New York Mets are some solid options as well.

If they want someone who's going to be under club control for a while longer, Reid Detmers of the Los Angeles Angels is an intriguing trade target.

The Strider injury has made the team's need for starting pitching greater than ever before. They will have some solid options to choose from at the August 3 trade deadline.
