The Atlanta Braves got some especially tough news on Tuesday, as they placed catcher Sean Murphy on the injured list.
After this roster move, the natural question was how long the former All-Star catcher would be out for Atlanta this season as he deals with a fractured left middle finger.
Walt Weiss, according to Jesus Cano of The Athletic, announced the rough length of Murphy's expected absence, and it's some tough news.
Braves' Sean Murphy set to miss at least eight weeks
"Walt Weiss said Sean Murphy will miss 'a chunk' of time -- at least eight weeks," Cano reports on Tuesday.
This is some brutal news for Murphy, who missed the opening portion of the 2026 season due to injury, and now, he's headed back to the injured list.
Except this time, Murphy is going to miss a lot longer than he did to begin the season. The 31-year-old catcher is going to be out for a while, and only played in four games for Atlanta this season.
He recorded -0.3 bWAR with a .071 batting average and .143 OPS in 14 at-bats with one hit, one run scored, no walks, and six strikeouts.

With this new eight-week minimum injury recovery timeline for Murphy, when is his earliest possible return date this season?
If he misses exactly eight weeks from May 12th, he can return on July 7th. But, with the All-Star break right after, it might make sense to give Murphy another week or two off to be fully recovered.
Either way, the Braves' Gold Glove and All-Star catcher is expected to be out well into July, as this fractured middle finger has a lengthy recovery timeline.
