Braves reportedly tried trading for $90M Giants 3.74 ERA All-Star pitcher

The 2026 MLB trade deadline came and went, and for Atlanta Braves fans, they weren't exactly happy with the haul Alex Anthopolous landed them.

Lane Thomas and Tyler Mahle should help, but they aren't the difference-making players the fans were hoping to see get added. Especially when it comes to the starting rotation, not landing a true playoff-caliber starter seems like a mistake.

But, it wasn't for a lack of effort, as according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Braves tried trading for San Francisco Giants $90M ace Logan Webb, but they weren't able to swing such a deal.

"While Atlanta was rebuffed in an attempt to land Jacob deGrom of the Texas Rangers, who was unwilling to waive his no-trade rights, it was among the teams that also tried to land San Francisco Giants All-Star pitcher Logan Webb," Nightengale writes.

After landing Mahle in a deal with the Giants, it would not have been too strange for the Braves and Giants to link up on another deal, this time, involving Webb.

The veteran right-hander would've been a true star addition for the Braves' rotation, but it would've cost them a ton of prospect capital, potentially even more than what it'd take to land Tarik Skubal.

Webb is a three-time All-Star pitcher who is under club control through 2028 on a $90 million, five-year contract. He'd be a multi-season option, and a great one at that.

He has a 3.74 ERA this season, and would've fit right in the Atlanta rotation alongside Chris Sale, giving the Braves their new starting rotation duo for the postseason.

But the Giants had no plans to move on from Webb, and rebuffed the Braves, and all other teams' best offers, thanks in large part to the two years left on his contract.

As much as the Braves might've wanted to land Webb, the odds were slim to none. Adding deGrom had a much higher chance of happening, as that deal was only nixed thanks to the no-trade clause from deGrom. The Giants didn't want to trade Webb at all.
