The Atlanta Braves' series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers proved they lacked the high-end star power needed to contend with the best teams in the league, and upgrading the team in a meaningful capacity is a must this offseason.
There will be plenty of focus on the starting rotation, and rightfully so, but the Braves should also be trying to upgrade their shortstop position as best they can. To do so, they might have to get creative.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer is predicting the Braves will do much more than just get creative, as he's predicting they will swing a trade with the Baltimore Orioles for All-Star Gunnar Henderson in a move that would be a dream come true this offseason.
Braves predicted to trade for Gunnar Henderson from Orioles
"The Atlanta Braves will trade for Gunnar Henderson," Rymer predicts. "... Their shortstop position has been unsettled for years, and it stands to be wide-open once Ha-Seong Kim and Mauricio Dubon file for free agency."
The Braves are going to be in need of shortstop help this offseason. Their two top options at the position are hitting the open market, and neither is really a good long-term or short-term solution.
Acquiring a superstar player for their shortstop position would make a ton of sense. While names like Trea Turner and Francisco Lindor might pop up, they're not likely options for the Braves with the intra-division nature of a potential trade.
But Henderson, a shortstop with the Orioles in the AL East, makes perfect sense as a trade target. He's under control for the next two seasons, and he's someone with superstar potential.

His 2026 season wasn't as great as his previous three years in the big leagues, but he still posted 3.2 bWAR with 141 hits, 88 runs scored, six triples, 27 doubles, 24 home runs, and 60 RBIs with 10 stolen bases and a .715 OPS.
With not many great options available on the open market, the Braves might need to trade for a starting shortstop this offseason. They can't return to Kim or a mediocre stop-gap for another season. They need a star, and Henderson would be just that.
Baltimore might finally move on from Henderson as well, as his trade value for them might not be any higher after this offseason than it is right now.
Adding Henderson to this Braves team would be the kind of dream-come-true offseason move any contending team would love to make.
It would surely cost a lot, potentially even someone like Didier Fuentes. But landing Henderson, and potentially signing him to a contract extension, would be worth losing Fuentes. Henderson brings that much value, and he'd be a perfect fit for Atlanta.
