It is time for the Atlanta Braves to turn their attention to the 2027 season, as free agency is officially underway. Now, it is a matter of whether they can make their moves before a potential lockout. Atlanta has several important needs to address this offseason.

Once again, the Braves will need to add pitching, whether that means strengthening the starting rotation or adding to the bullpen. They did a good job addressing those needs last offseason, beginning with the re-signing of closer Raisel Iglesias.

“The Braves have addressed one of their offseason priorities by re-signing closer Raisel Iglesias to a one-year, $16 million contract. Atlanta announced the deal Wednesday. Iglesias, a 35-year-old right-hander, had completed a four-year, $58 million contract that paid him $16 million in each of the past three seasons,” ESPN wrote.

Atlanta didn't stop with bringing Iglesias back. The team also landed one of the best closers in baseball in 2025, signing flamethrower Robert Suarez to create a formidable 1-2 punch at the back of the bullpen.

“Closer Robert Suarez has signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Atlanta Braves, the team announced Thursday. Suarez, who led the National League this season with 40 saves in 45 chances, became a free agent in early November after opting out of $8 million options for 2026 and 2027,” ESPN wrote.

Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly believes the Braves could add another flamethrowing bullpen arm by signing Adrián Morejón this winter.

“There's little doubt Morejon has the stuff to pitch in the ninth inning. However, not having to be the closer might make him more appealing, because teams with established closers could still be in on him. Earlier in these predictions, we projected that Raisel Iglesias would leave the Braves because we think they could invest more in someone like Morejon,” Kelly wrote.

This would be a great move for Atlanta, as Morejón was dominant in 2026 and could serve as the setup man for Suarez over the next couple of seasons. It would also mark the second consecutive offseason in which the Braves added a reliever from the San Diego Padres.

Morejón played under a $3.9 million contract in 2026. Atlanta would likely have to pay a significant price to bring him aboard, but the investment could be worthwhile. Regardless of the specific moves they make, addressing the pitching staff should be the Braves' top priority this offseason.
