Braves predicted to sign $200 million slugger to build 'dream' lineup

The Atlanta Braves did not meet expectations in 2024. The team could be aggressive in free agency to add some power bats.

While building the Braves' "dream Opening Day lineup," FanSided's Zach Pressnell predicted that the team would sign Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers.

"The Braves have needed a shortstop since the middle of 2024 when Orlando Arcia began showing signs of struggle," wrote Pressnell. "Those signs quickly became a habit for the former All-Star all the way until he was almost unplayable with an OPS below the league average. The Braves have been connected to trades for shortstops like Bo Bichette, but that won't be where they find their franchise shortstop in this scenario."

Pressnell predicted that the Braves would sign Adames to a $200 million deal in free agency. Adames had a career year. He set highs in home runs, RBIs and stolen bases.

"Last season, Adames slashed .251/.331/.462 with a 118 OPS+ compared to Arcia who posted a 73 OPS+," wrote Pressnell. "It would be an understatement to say that Adames would be a massive upgrade for the Braves."

Adames would bring the power the Braves have been lacking at the position. Brewers owner Mark Attanasio told reporters that the Brewers will try to sign Adames, but other teams may outbid them. However, Adames has noted his desire to stay in Milwaukee.

"I think the free-agent contract is going to be very valuable for him and quite high," Attanasio told reporters. "We'll do what we can to stretch, but others have bigger pocketbooks and, we'll see what happens."

Adding Adames to the lineup could be the move that brings the Braves back to the top of the decision.
