The Atlanta Braves are playing some incredible baseball this season, and they're very much likely the top contender that can dethrone the Los Angeles Dodgers this season.
But, in order to have the best chance to do so, they should trade for another starting pitcher, ideally, someone like Tarik Skubal. Not only because they could stop the Dodgers from getting him, but also because he'd be an incredible addition to the rotation.
Skubal would be great, but what would it cost? ESPN's Jeff Passan highlighted three young pitching prospects that the Braves would be able to use in a trade for Skubal, as Atlanta has a good chance to acquire the Detroit Tigers ace this season.
Braves trade cost for Tarik Skubal might include one of Atlanta's young pitchers
"So why Skubal? Because he's Skubal. And because all those young arms -- not to mention J.R. Ritchie and Cam Caminiti in the minor leagues, and Didier Fuentes at the big league level -- give them the firepower to get him," Passan writes.
Adding Skubal, the back-to-back Cy Young winner from 2024 and 2025, would be a dream outcome for the Braves at this year's deadline.
He's a need for this team, and would be just what they need to be elevated into serious World Series threats to the Dodgers' superteam.

Fortunately, the Braves have the resources to make a trade work. Didier Fuentes would make sense in a trade, as would Cam Caminiti and JR Ritchie.
All three young pitching prospects would be expendable if it meant adding Skubal. Add in that the Braves might be able to use Hurston Waldrep, Spencer Schwellenbach, or A.J. Smith-Shawver, and they have the resources to pull off such a huge trade.
It might cost a lot for the Braves to add Skubal, but being able to pair him with Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, and Bryce Elder would give Atlanta one of the best rotations in MLB, and a group that's near-perfect for a postseason series.
