Braves get worrying Spencer Strider, Spencer Schwellenbach injury updates

The Atlanta Braves are sitting atop the NL East coming out of the All-Star break, but there is some real concern about how good this team can be for the rest of the season.

While Ronald Acuna Jr. should come back at some point, there is a big difference in the reporting about Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach.

According to MLB.com's Mark Bowman, there is some real concern that both Spencer's will not only miss a lot more time this season, but also the rest of the year, based on the answer from Walt Weiss.

Braves have real concern with Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach

"I told Weiss it feels like Strider is done for the season and that Schwellenbach is just a maybe to pitch this year," Bowman reports. "I followed with, 'Does this seem accurate?'"

That question from Bowman received the following answer from Weiss: "I wouldn't say it's inaccurate. I think there is a chance we see both of them this year. But sitting here today, it's hard to say."

This update from Weiss on these two pitchers is not ideal at all. What this does is open the door to both Strider and Schwellenbach missing the rest of the season.

Weiss not completely shutting down Bowman's question is not the kind of answer Braves fans will like to hear. This means that Weiss can't confirm one way or another that Strider and Schwellenbach will return this season.

MORERed Sox trade rumor involving All-Star shortstop includes Yankees, Braves

While he does believe there's a chance both come back during the 2026 season, this uncertainty is not the kind of update that alleviates any worries in the fanbase.

Outside of Chris Sale, the Braves now are going to have to rely more on Bryce Elder, Reynaldo Lopez, Grant Holmes, Owen Murphy, RJ Ritchie, and any other pitching option that's healthy or called up to the Majors.

This should also make the team's trade deadline need clear, as if both Strider and Schwellenbach are question marks for late in the season, the Braves need to add another starter by the August 3 deadline.
