The Atlanta Braves have lost Max Fried this offseason and will likely be parting ways with Charlie Morton as well. They could turn to the trade market to add another arm to their rotation.
FanSided's Zach Pressnell proposed a trade that brings Erick Fedde to Atlanta from the St. Louis Cardinals. Fedde will be a free agent after this season and the Cardinals seem to be rebuilding.
- Braves receive: right-handed pitcher Erick Fedde
- Cardinals receive: right-handed pitcher Bryce Elder and right-handed pitcher Drue Hackenberg
Fedde signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Chicago White Sox before last season. He had a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts before being traded to the Cardinals. After being traded he had a 3.72 ERA in 10 starts. He had 154 strikeouts last season. He would be a fairly cheap addition to the Braves.
"For the Braves, Fedde gives them a reliable fifth starter to place behind their top four guys. Atlanta struggled with depth last season and they haven't done anything to improve it. You simply cannot go into a season with only four reliable starting pitchers and a handful of question marks," wrote Pressnell. "While Fedde may just be a stopgap until a prospect like AJ Smith-Shawver or Hurston Waldrep is ready, the righty would be good in Atlanta's rotation early in the year at the very least."
The Braves would be p[rating with two young players who have shown promise, but may not be ready to take the leap just yet. Fedde would give the Braves a reliable arm next season.
