The Carolina Hurricanes counted on Frederik Andersen most of their playoff run.
But then when Andersen had to be pulled in the Stanley Cup Final, Brandon Bussi got the call. And all he did was ensure the Hurricanes would hoist Lord Stanley's Cup.
Bussi was a hero in goal, and after a journeyman career, he has made a case for a long NHL future.
Before this, Bussi's contract may not have been of major concern.
Now, everyone in Carolina is likely wondering about what comes next for Bussi.
And well, it turns out his contract is in great shape.
Brandon Bussi contract
Bussi has three more years to go on his contract.
Each of those seasons will have a cap hit of $1.9 million, super affordable even if Bussi ends up just being a reliable backup. And if he can start at that cost? That'd be immense.
He'll be a free agent at the end of the 2028-29 season, as things stand right now.
Carolina will likely consider bulking up its goaltending situation in some form, especially after this odd ending for the aging Andersen.
But from outside the picture, Bussi has now put himself in a prominent spot. And he won't cost much to have around into the future.
