Via Superhero Hype, Brazilian outlet Omelete reports Bradley Cooper (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Angela Sarafyan (Westworld) are playing Kal-El’s birth parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, in James Gunn‘s Superman movie, due out July 11. The reveal was made during a 30-min preview screening, where fans got to see more of the scene from the extended sneak peek:

Cooper and Sarafyan’s appearances purportedly occur when the Fortress of Solitude’s robots play a message from Jor-El and Lara, spoken in Kryptonian. Gunn had previously confirmed he would reteam with Cooper, who previously voiced Rocket Raccoon in his Guardians of the Galaxy films, during the press tour, while disclosing fellow Guardians cast members Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Pom Klementieff (Mantis) are among the actors voicing the robots.

Cooper, 50, is now the fourth actor to play Jor-El in a live-action, theatrical film, following the 1948 serial’s Nelson Leigh, the 1978 film’s Marlon Brando, and Man of Steel‘s Russell Crowe, while Sarafyan, 41, follows in the footsteps of those respective projects’ Luana Walters, Susannah York, and Ayelet Zurer. When we include animation, that makes them the fifth pair of actors to play Superman’s Kryptonian parents on the big screen, following Alfred Molina and Lena Headey‘s cameos in DC League of Super-Pets.

Cooper’s casting brings about an amusing coincidence, as Rocket was once seen commandeering a Jor-El pastiche’s ship in 2015’s Groot #1, written by Jeff Loveness with art by Brian Kesinger:

Superman, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, will also feature Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell as Superman’s adoptive parents Jonathan and Martha Kent. Other actors in the movie who have worked with Gunn before include Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Stephen Blackehart as Sydney Happersen, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
