Boyfriend begs his girlfriend not to bring home a cat, she can't help it and adopts the saddest-looking cat at a shelter, the boyfriend falls in love, and the cat helps him propose: 'I'm fairly confident I have the best cat ever'

A story as old as time… a man who did not want a cat falling deeply in love with the new cat in the house. 

We think that this is a genre that can officially be classified as a classic on ICHC. Someone who didn't want a cat falling deeply in love with the new kitten in the house and believing wholeheartedly that said kitten is the best kitten. Of course, we knew - we, meaning cat people - the meowgical powers that cats have. And they do. There is a pull when it comes to cats that is simply impawssible to ignore. It's why people like us, who have embraced being cat ladies, cannot help but stop to pet literally every single cat that we see. 

My husband has started calling these moments "cat-related delays". Every time it happens when we are on the way somewhere and might be late due to the cat delay, he sends an image of me petting the stray cat to the people we're going to meet. In my personal opinion, it is a valid reason to be late to places. And most of our friends have come to expect it. 

It's because of that meowgical pull. Irresistible. I don't know what would happen if I didn't stop to pet every stray cat that I saw, and quite frankly, I see no reason to find out. Of course, I am a self-aware cat lady. I not only have accepted it, I am proud of it. Some people, Hoofarted91 on Reddit, take a while to accept their true cat lady identity. 

These "people who don't want cats" live under a shadow of delusion. They truly believe that they don't want cats. In fact, this man begged his girlfriend not to adopt a cat. She was a cat lady, though, so it only worked for so long. Finally, she was able to convince him to come to a shelter with her. They chose a cat, and then, this man made the mistake of leaving his lady alone in there. The cat she came back with was not the cat that they chose but rather the saddest-looking cat in the shelter. 

It took less than a day for this man to fall victim to this cat's meowgic. Less than a day for him to say something like this: "I was willing to do anything to make this cat feel loved". And that is exactly what happens every single time to every person who claims they don't want a cat. They just need to meet the right one. And by the "right one", we mean literally any cat that they are forced to be with for more than five minutes. 

So, yes, we think that we can officially classify this genre of story as a classic on ICHC. Because it always goes in the exact same way. And we love it each and every time.
