Many Boston Red Sox fans would say this offseason has been decent, but not good enough. Had the Red Sox re-signed Alex Bregman, they’d be in as good of a spot as any team in the American League, but that didn’t happen.
The Red Sox need to improve at the hot corner unless they really have that much trust in Caleb Durbin, and a trade pitch from Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Shea would do just that.
Phillies acquire: Jarren Duran
Red Sox acquire: Alec Bohm, Jean Cabrera, Brandon Marsh
“The Boston Red Sox would be interested in this deal because it allows them to address multiple roster needs while redistributing value from one player into three assets. Trading Jarren Duran would be difficult given his power-speed profile and team control, but if Boston believes its outfield depth can absorb the loss, this type of package strengthens other areas of the roster,” he wrote.
Duran has been someone the Red Sox can rely on at times in his career, but he also struggled a good bit in 2025. Factor that in with the talent the Red Sox have in the outfield, and it isn’t crazy to suggest that trading the left-handed hitter makes sense.
Regarding Bohm, he’s not great, but he’d give the Red Sox help at third base. He was an All-Star in 2024 but also struggled a good bit in the second half of that season and in 2025.
