Bombardier Inc. will invest around S$100 million (US$78 million) to expand its Singapore maintenance and service hub to support an anticipated increase in the number of next-generation business jets.

The move by the Canadian maker of private planes including the Global and Challenger will create 200 skilled jobs at a new 23,200 square metre facility at Singapore’s Seletar Airport — almost doubling its existing footprint and workforce. Construction will begin in the second half of the year.

In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Paul Sislian, Bombardier’s executive vice president for aircraft sales and aftermarket services, said: “We see continued growth, and for us, it was the right solution with the increase in utilization.”

The jet maker in April reported a record backlog of orders, topping US$20 billion, as demand for business jets from wealthy individuals and shared-ownership and subscription firms soars. Sislian said up to 10 per cent of the order book came from the Asia Pacific region.

Set to start operations in the second half of 2028, it will be the second round of expansion at the Singapore facility, which already supports about 2,000 aircraft annually and employs 300 people locally.
