Bob Myers looks back on how Philadelphia negotiated the trade with Boston for Jaylen Brown

Jaylen Brown is now with the Philadelphia 76ers after a decade playing for the Boston Celtics. A lot of people thought they would have been teammates with Jayson Tatum for the rest of their careers. Unfortunately, that was not the case because they were willing to deal with Philly's front office.

After a package of Paul George and a significant draft haul, the Celtics were willing to part ways with the franchise's latest Finals MVP. It was a massive move for the 76ers, as it also led to them getting four-time Finals MVP LeBron James shortly after.

As the President of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, Bob Myers is involved with the 76ers. He was there with Mike Gansey working on the 76ers in the 2026 offseason. What many thought to be a quiet summer for the 76ers, they managed to pull off some of the biggest moves in franchise history.

Getting Brown was already a massive boost for the 76ers. However, it also led to them signing James, who has not elevated this team to the top of the Eastern Conference. Of course, other teams will probably have something to say about that, but the 76ers are undeniably a top contender due to their talent level.

As one of the main men in charge of the 76ers, Myers was involved in the conversations with the Celtics and team president Brad Stevens. As two people who have been in NBA circles for a long time, Myers was quite familiar with how to deal with Stevens.

"I think Brad Stevens is one of the most straight shooters in the league. So when you work in the NBA as an executive, you ultimately usually have at least one or two, I don’t want to say transactions with every other GM... This dude just might lie. He lied to me two years ago. He’s going to lie to me again. That’s not Brad Stevens. So, when Brad Stevens responded with, 'What are you offering?' Then you knew that there was a shot," Myers said on the Cousins podcast about dealing with Stevens and the Celtics.

It was definitely interesting to look into because the 76ers have benefited from the deal. The Celtics took the brunt of the criticism because they let go of a Finals MVP, but it seems they are ready to move on with Tatum as the centerpiece.
