Bo Bassett is no longer committed to compete with the Iowa wrestling program beginning in 2026. Bassett, one of the top recruits in the country, has decommitted from the Hawkeyes.
The Bishop McCort High School standout recently completed his junior season in Pennsylvania. He was a U17 world champion in 2021 and won bronze at the U20 World event last year.
Bassett is a three-time winner of the Ironman along with being a Powerade and Super 32 champion. He narrowed down his college choices on social media over several weeks before committing to Iowa.
"After a lot of prayer and talking with my family, I've decided to decommit from the University of Iowa," Bassett posted on social media. "This wasn't easy, but I believe it's not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person or for my faith journey. I'm grateful for the opportunity, and I'll never speak a bad word about their program.
"This is about finding the place God wants me to be. This is a huge decision in my life and it has to be the right one."
Despite the bad news for the Hawkeye program, Bassett offered these words:
"I would like to thank all of the Iowa fans who have supported me," he wrote. "You have been amazing and I am grateful for the support you showed me."
The move came with a second troubling sign for the future at Iowa. Melvin Miller, the younger brother of Bassett and a top prospect in 2027, cut the Hawkeyes from his recent final nine schools he was considering.
