Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn’t get the ending he hoped for in the World Baseball Classic, but the Toronto Blue Jays star made it clear that the experience meant far more than anything else.
Despite falling short, Guerrero said it was an incredible honor for him to be out there, both on and off the field.
Guerrero spoke about how meaningful the tournament was for him and his family. The chance to be part of something bigger than himself and play for his country is a great honor, and one that he didn’t take lightly.
“It was a great experience. I really enjoyed it,” Guerrero said, per MLB.com. “The end result wasn’t what we expected, but it was great. I had the opportunity to play with some teammates who I’ve wanted to play with since I was young.
“My greatest pleasure was that I played for my family,” Guerrero said. “Nobody in my family had the chance to play in a tournament like this. I did, and it was an unbelievable experience for me and my family. The joy of playing with my teammates, great players who I’ve always wanted to play together with since I was younger, those were the two things that I can say were great for me.”
While the loss wasn’t what he was hoping for, it was another great learning experience and time to play for the Blue Jays star.
