Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage reveals what went through his mind on huge third inning double play in ALCS Game 6 vs. Mariners

The Toronto Blue Jays won Game 6 of the American League Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners to force a Game 7 on Monday night.

It will be the Blue Jays' first Game 7 in 40 years, and the Mariners have never played in a Game 7.

History will be made on Monday night, regardless of who comes out on top. However, the only reason there's a game on Monday is because Toronto stayed alive on Sunday night.

Trey Yesavage reacts to huge double play in Game 6

The Blue Jays offense put up six runs on Sunday night, which has been part of a magical solution to win games all year in Toronto. That continued on Sunday.

Starting pitcher Trey Yesavage delivered 5.2 innings and gave up just two runs on six hits and three walks, and stuck out seven batters.

The Blue Jays' starter dealt with congested base paths all night long but limited the damage to just two runs.

In the third inning, Yesavage induced a 3-6-1 double play. The pitcher had to cover first base as first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. collected the ground ball and tossed it to shortstop Andrés Giménez, who finished the play by throwing a strike to Yesavage at first base.

After the game, the Blue Jays' pitcher revealed what was going through his mind during the crucial play.

"I saw the ball was smoked over to Vladdy, so I knew I had to get my butt over there," Yesavage said. "I had no idea where the bag was. I just thank the Lord that he put me right on top of it."

Giménez's throw took Yesavage right to the bag, and got the Blue Jays out of a bases-loaded jam unscathed.

However, that was one of three consecutive innings with a double play induced by Yesavage.

The Blue Jays' starter was able to limit the damage throughout the night and then Toronto's bullpen took over to finish the job on Sunday night.

Now, we all get to enjoy a Game 7 on Monday night. The winner will be crowned the American League champions and face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series.
