The Toronto Blue Jays have been performing well lately, and they finished the first half of 2025 in first place in the American League East. They were off to a slow start earlier this year before turning things around.
They will need some help at the trade deadline. Their starting rotation needs a little bit of work.
Fortunately, there will be plenty of arms available in the coming weeks to boost their rotation, and they'll need a top starter to separate themselves from the rest of the AL East.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today notes that Toronto is showing interest in Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen.
"GMs believe that the Toronto Blue Jays could be as aggressive as any team in baseball at the deadline, believing this could be their best chance to return to the World Series since 1993. The Blue Jays are looking for a front-line pitcher, and have shown interest in Gallen," Nightengale wrote.

Gallen is struggling this season with the Diamondbacks. He is 7-10 with a 5.40 ERA in 20 starts, though he has recorded 110 strikeouts in 115 innings of work.
But it appears as though the Diamondbacks are going to be sellers at this year's deadline, which bodes well for Toronto if they are showing interest in the star right-hander.
Perhaps a change of scenery to a contending ballclub will help Gallen rediscover his form. Adding him to a rotation that already includes Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, Bowden Francis and Jose Berrios could give the Blue Jays the edge they need to pull away from the rest of the AL East.
It will be interesting to see if Toronto trades for the star right-hander at the deadline.
