Blue Jays predicted to sign $8.8 million All-Star ace as potential Kevin Gausman replacement

The Toronto Blue Jays have finally moved on to the ALCS for the first time in almost a decade, with their eyes set on the World Series. However, this run may be cut short with certain contracts expiring soon.

The Jays are predicted to lose Chris Bassitt, Max Scherzer, and Shane Bieber this winter. More importantly, they are predicted to lose their ace, Kevin Gausman, next winter. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller believes that the Jays will go look for a replacement for Gausman, and it will be Philadelphia Phillies All-Star Ranger Suarez.

“Most coveted free-agent pitcher feels a bit aggressive for Ranger Suárez, considering he has never reached 160 innings pitched in a season…He was also one of the top candidates for NL Cy Young midway through last year, boasting a 1.83 ERA through his first 16 starts. When this southpaw gets into a groove, there aren't many better…They're also slated to lose Kevin Gausman and possibly José Berríos next offseason, so they are definitely in the market for long-term potential aces north of the border,” Miller wrote.

This season, Suarez posted a 3.20 ERA, a 12-8 record, 151 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.220 over 151 innings pitched. Overall, he’s better than Gausman this season, and along with Trey Yesavage, the Blue Jays could have one of the better 1-2 punches in baseball.

Hopefully, the Jays retain at least one of their free agents this offseason, and then go and get Suarez to try for another World Series run. Then next season, Gausman hands the keys to Suarez, and a new era starts in Toronto.
