Blue Jays’ Max Scherzer seemingly thinks Toronto will be without key piece for extended period of time

The Toronto Blue Jays have been hit with multiple injuries to start the season, but the latest one looks to be significant. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays will now have to react to that, and do so both mentally and by adding another player or bringing somebody up to eat these innings.

While it remains uncertain just how serious this injury is, some seem to think in the clubhouse that it could be season-ending.

Max Scherzer had the latest on the situation.

“It’s a gut punch,” Scherzer said of Cody Ponce’s knee injury on Wednesday, according to the Toronto Star’s Mike Wilner. “It’s the worst part of sports, when somebody has a season-ending injury.”

If someone gets it, guys like Scherzer do. He's dealt with them himself, has seen teammates go down for extended periods of time, and also understands the mental struggles that come with it.

Not only did the Blue Jays lose a very good arm in Ponce, but a guy who battled back to return to this league, unfortunately, has to deal with a very tough setback. It also sounds like Scherzer might know more about the injury than what is initially being talked about right now.
