The Toronto Blue Jays performed well below expectations in 2024.
Some viewed the Blue Jays as World Series threats, but they actually ended up finishing in last place in the American League East.
Toronto now is at a crossroads. Should the Blue Jays invest in the organization and make one more run with their current core before players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette hit free agency? Should they blow up the roster and rebuild?
It seems like the Blue Jays are leaning more toward attempting to contend in 2025 and add to the roster. Toronto has been pursuing New York Yankees star Juan Soto but a move seems unlikely.
If the Blue Jays were to miss out on Soto, one player who has been mentioned as a fit is Milwaukee Brewers star Willy Adames by Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller.
"The Blue Jays are the ultimate wild card this offseason," Miller said. "They're reportedly trying to sign Juan Soto. They're also presumably trying to extend Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and/or Bo Bichette before they enter their final season of arbitration eligibility. And if they're not convinced that they can/should re-up with Bichette, they could swing big for Adames and then put Bichette on the trade block to really shake things up.
"If they're drawing up a $150-plus million deal for a shortstop, though, one would imagine it'll be to lock up Bichette through at least 2030."
Adames is projected to get a deal worth roughly $152 million this winter. It seems like the Blue Jays are willing to roll the dice on a lucrative deal and it could end up making some sense for them to pursue Adames.
