Blue Jays linked to Ernie Clement's 35 home run Team USA WBC teammate

Major League Baseball's trade deadline is about three months away, but it's never too early to speculate about which players could be on the move.

As one of the American League's top contenders, the Toronto Blue Jays could be buyers at the deadline. They fell short in last year's World Series, barely losing Game 7 to the Los Angeles Dodgers

One area of need for the Blue Jays could be in the outfield. Toronto lacks a long-term solution in center field, with Daulton Varsho set to reach free agency at the conclusion of the season.

George Springer could play a factor, but the veteran is likely to see his name penciled in at DH more times than not. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer has identified a two-time All-Star for the Blue Jays to target. The 32-year-old was Ernie Clement's teammate on Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.

There are many injury concerns when it comes to Byron Buxton, but his name continues to come up in trade discussions despite having a no-trade clause in his contract with the Minnesota Twins

"On it goes, with the Twins off to a 1-3 start after crashing out at the end of 2025," Rymer wrote Wednesday. "And since Buxton was reportedly willing (per ESPN's Jeff Passan) to waive his no-trade clause over the winter, he should be considered a top trade name for the summer market."

Since 2021, Buxton has averaged 35 home runs and 19 stolen bases per 162 games. He has four hits in 17 trips to the plate so far, including a double and triple. Buxton's speed and power place him as one of MLB's best dual-threat outfielders, something the Blue Jays could keep in mind as the season progresses.
