Blue Jays have to get rid of 2 players by tomorrow

The Toronto Blue Jays are due to bring Dylan Cease and Max Scherzer off the IL.

That creates some good problems to have.

Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith wrote on X that Toronto will have to remove two other pitchers from the roster to make it happen.

Generally, that comes in one of three forms: a demotion to Triple-A, a designated for assignment, or another Injured List move.

Jays have to make 2 roster moves by tomorrow for Cease & Scherzer. Means 2 arms are coming off roster. Would've guessed SWR, but 4 IP, 0 ER yest w/ velo ↑. SWR out of options. Seabold, too. Macko has options, but NYY in on wknd = ↑ LHB. So is there an IL move? Tough call ahead.

The 'SWR' mentioned above is Simeon Woods Richardson, who was just great on Monday night with those aforementioned four scoreless innings.

He and Connor Seabold both are out of options, which means they'd have to be DFA'd (and risk being claimed on waivers) to be removed from the roster.

It seems like the Blue Jays might have to risk something like that, at least based on how Nicholson-Smith lays it out.

If an injury popped up now, it would actually solve one-half of this problem by letting someone else go to the IL in place of the returning starters.

Obviously, the Blue Jays will be happy to have the pitchers back, particularly Cease. It just means they'll have to figure out the tougher decision of who gets sent out to make the roster space.
