Blue Jays get exciting Tarik Skubal trade rumor from MLB insider

1 hour ago 3

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't exactly had a great regular season so far, but they've been trending in the right direction and aren't even that far out of a playoff spot.

They're currently tied with the Minnesota Twins for the third Wild Card spot, and it's not unreasonable to believe they're likely to surpass the Twins by this summer. With how things are going, it would not be a surprise if the Blue Jays were trade deadline buyers.

But who could they target? There's a ton of interesting names worth keeping an eye on, but MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today revealed a very exciting rumor for the Blue Jays that has Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal as a potential trade option.

Blue Jays linked to trade for Tarik Skubal

"... Rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres," Nightengale reports.

While there are a few other teams that will be able to make a serious run for Skubal at this year's deadline, the Blue Jays being named among that group is a good sign.

Skubal will be a free agent after the 2026 season and is in the middle of a $32 million deal. The Tigers also won't just trade him away for nothing, either.

It's going to be very expensive to trade for Skubal, who is currently on the injured list after surgery to remove loose bodies in his elbow.

But, assuming the medicals check out, the Blue Jays would benefit greatly from adding an ace-level pitcher like Skubal to the banged-up rotation.

Skubal is worth spending a fortune on, especially if between now and the deadline the Blue Jays can make up more ground and become a more solidified postseason contender.

The 2026 season hasn't been all that great for the Blue Jays, but if they can maintain their status as World Series contenders and land someone like Skubal at the deadline, they could be one of the favorites for the title this year with an elite rotation.
