Blue Jays fans have to 'make peace' with Cam Schlittler projection for Yankees

The American League Cy Young Award is down to a two-man race. 

New York Yankees ace Cam Schlittler and Dylan Cease, this year's AL All-Star Game starter, are the top two candidates by a landslide. 

Cease has put together a spectacular season for the Toronto Blue Jays, but he may fall short in the voting. 

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer wrote that Blue Jays fans have to face reality when it comes to who deserves this year's AL Cy Young. 

"At last, an easy one. Schlittler is probably going to win the AL Cy Young Award, and Toronto Blue Jays fans will just have to make peace with that," Rymer wrote.

"Schlittler leads the AL with 6.7 rWAR and a 2.01 ERA. The difference between his peripherals and Cease's is ultimately marginal, which is a credit to both pitchers," Rymer added. "Yet Schlittler has pitched 17.1 more innings than his AL East counterpart, which is not a marginal difference." 

Schlittler has allowed one run fewer in eight of his last nine starts. In fact, his 20 starts this season with one run or fewer allowed is the single-season franchise record for the Yankees.

As Rymer detailed, pitching deep into ballgames is something that could give Schlittler an edge over Cease. 

Concerns about Schlittler's workload could come into play during the postseason. For now, he's handled being the ace of New York's pitching staff incredibly well. 

There's no doubt he will be the Yankees' Game 1 starter in the postseason, which gives them an advantage over any team they may face in a Wild Card Series and/or ALDS.
